A Life Cut Short: Remembering Austin Turner and Seeking Justice

The Cheatham County community is in mourning after the tragic loss of Austin Turner, a kind soul and beloved member of the class of 2016.  Born on March 2nd, 1998, Austin's life was abruptly cut short on March 7th, 2024, just five days after his 26th birthday.

Austin was known for his friendly demeanor and his willingness to go the extra mile for anyone in need. He was a self-employed contractor, taking pride in his work and his ability to help others build their dreams.  Perhaps the most defining aspect of Austin's character was his unwavering kindness.  He embodied the principle of turning the other cheek, always choosing forgiveness and compassion.

This inherent goodness makes the circumstances surrounding his death even more heartbreaking. On February 17th, 2024, Austin celebrated with friends at Tin Roof, a popular bar in Nashville.  The evening was filled with laughter and joy, and shortly after midnight on February 18th, they decided to call it a night.  As Austin was leaving the bar and heading towards the sidewalk, tragedy struck.

Austin was struck in the head from behind, causing him to fall unconscious.  He was rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center by ambulance, where he slipped into a coma. Despite valiant efforts from medical professionals, Austin never regained consciousness and succumbed to his injuries on March 7th, 2024.

Richard Cornelious, a security guard employed at Tin Roof, has been arrested in connection with this crime.  A cloud of unanswered questions hangs over the events of that fateful night.  The investigation is ongoing, and the Turner family, along with the entire community, seeks justice for Austin.
